welcome (back) to obsessed and on the go, a semi-regular roundup of things i’m obsessing over amidst the ups and downs of the mid twenties, thanks for being here!
it may be cliche to say, but with everything happening in the media right now, my mind feels like it’s racing at a hundred miles per hour. feeling inspired after noticing how little time i spent on my phone while creating a piece of pinterest-viral knitwear, it only felt natural that the next issue of messy or chic would be about the hobbies we can do to keep busy. besides, having hobbies is chic.
talk soon,

obsessing over: hobbies i can pick up in a week
currently in deep with a pair of crochet micro-shorts, i’ve become fixated on the idea of making my bikinis and summer clothes. i really can’t help it, with a tendency to hyper fixate, i see all kinds of future possibilities and projects before completing my initial endeavor.
it’s no help that tiktok caught onto my little crafty habits—the algorithm now supplies my feed with content guaranteed to add to the list of unfinished projects staring at me from my desk. coming across @kristinervbb, whose account perfectly lives at the intersection of aesthetic influencer content and diy inspiration, was exactly the trigger my brain needed to push aside my tub of air-dry clay and experiment with yarn. i know, a major reason to indulge in hobbies is to be away from your screen, but you’ve got to get your inspiration somewhere.
regardless of your background, you can’t let social media intimidate you from pursuing something you’ve always wanted to try. use it as a resource to learn—many creators who’ve gone viral for their work also sell patterns and post basic tutorials on youtube. and, if you find yourself lacking for inspiration, there’s a vast array of actually cool craft and diy kits. it really is no understatement to say, the possibilities are endless.
three chic must-diys

a mini, pre-framed still life from paint like frida will be sure to have people asking… was that really you?
if gifting is your love language, gift yourself a candle & pottery making kit from modeletto and make your own pinterest-worthy gifts.
for the fidgeter who can’t keep their hands still, crochet a chic little bag from wool and the gang.
the shortlist:
read: a journalist’s visit to a bibliotherapist in an attempt to read for pleasure again, with 5 book recs to cure any reading slump.
visit: dc craft cafe, relume, book an appointment to create your own charm necklace; or, attend a diy happy hour after work this month.
watch: bbc documentary, the social knitwork, about irish knitwear brand, hope macaulay. made by the cutest group of irish women (including hope’s granny), i would kill (jk) for one of their viral chunky knit cardigans.
shop: one-of-a-kind, functional ceramic pieces from cosa ceramica that make your home feel like a chic, euro film set.
taste: your own triumph after mastering a new dish at your local sur la table - i’ve got my eye on the ‘five-star french meal’ class.
aesthetically inspired: things i want to make
