hi! it’s me, back again!
my goal with this intermission between chapters is to give my energy to the things that bring me joy. cooking, reading, writing this newsletter, etc… very mindful, very demure.
obsessing over: literary aesthetes
jordan santos, the creator behind seen library, a community for readers to connect in person and share the stories close to their hearts. jordan’s personal instagram is a blend of books, beauty, style, and travel, making her account a must follow for those obsessed with lifestyle, but aesthetic. Besides cultivating members of the community to create intimate connections amongst each other, the seen library instagram page is also a must follow for those aesthetic and book obsessed.
simay demirel, the curator behind @whereiwouldliketoread, an instagram page dedicated to finding the perfect, most aesthetic reading nooks around. while whereiwouldliketoread combines architecture, books, emphasis on books, and style, the curator’s personal instagram leans more interior and style. we love a well rounded queen so i highly recommend giving simay a follow for some everyday inspo.
@thegirlwhoreadsonthemetro, an account run by anonymous ‘e’, is another must follow for any literary aesthete. much like the women i wrote about above, e’s personal account is a pleasant intersection of books, pop culture, style, and travel, creating an appealing, unique lifestyle aesthetic worth keeping up with. on thegirlwhoreadsonthemetro, e shares current reads and recommendations amongst the aesthetic inspo, setting the account apart from those mentioned above.
reading recently:
wandering stars by tommy orange - following generations, this novel dives deeper into the family history of one of the main characters from the author’s debut novel, there there. your heart aches at a time, the story offers a vivd portrait of the native american diaspora and it’s lasting, contemporary effects.
roman stories by jhumpa lahiri - loved loved LOVED. short story or essay collections are usually a hit or miss for me, and this collection of short stories highlighting the lives of those on the fringe italy’s capital city is most definitely a hit.
searching for the notorious celebrity book stylist (nyt) - published in 2021, the piece’s relevance remains.
why don’t straight men read novels? (dazed) - no seriously, why don’t they?
listening to lately:
a peaceful place, the new leon bridges is perfect for those in need of a peaceful moment and with a voice like his, i don’t think the man ever really misses.
tropical reading retreat, the vibe? reading on the deck of your bungalow mid-jungle. staring wistfully out your window towards the coast, sipping on your morning coffee. you get the idea.
hear, HERE, created under the line hotel, a collection of boutique hotels in austin, dc, la, and san francisco, the podcast dives into the varied background of those involved in the various communities the line is present. found after searching for more interviews with jennifer pauline - kind of obsessed with her concept of community. given my recent move back to the dmv area, i’ve been binging their episodes based around the dc location.
